Even though the media has pretty much decided that Toyota’s upcoming sports car will be bring back the iconic Supra name, the name apparently hasn’t been given the green light. Or at least that’s what Toyota wants us to think right now, until they finally unveil it.

AutoGuide got a chance to talk to Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division at this week’s LA Auto Show where they asked him a few questions about Toyota’s new sports car.

When asked about the name of the new sports car he stated, “I think that there is some discussion because the heritage of Supra is so strong. The name decision will not be made until next year as well. There are some other candidates for some other reasons that are really pretty strong.” Hollis continued, “Yes, we have other ideas, and yes, the Supra name is in consideration.”

So what other names could Toyota be considering? What about bringing back the 2000GT name?

Well luckily we don’t have to wait too long, since more information will be revealed next year. And although Hollis tried to hint that the Supra name isn’t 100%, he did say “I will say Supra is definitely a… leading candidate.”
