It’s being reported that Audi is working on a new e-quattro all-wheel-drive system that mates a gas engine to two electric motors – with one electric motor in the transmission and the second powering the rear wheels. The system is expected to debut first in the new A4 and the upcoming TTQ crossover.
The system is comprised of a 54 horsepower electric motor that’s located in the transmission, while the second electric motor generates 116 horsepower and powers the rear. When combined with a 292-horsepower electric motor, the system is reportedly good for around 408 horsepower and the vehicle can also travel on electricity alone in rear-wheel-drive mode.
