GM Confirms New Chevy Electric Model, May be Based on the Sonic

General Motors has confirmed that it is working on a new electric model for the Chevy brand that will be sold alongside the Volt and Spark electric models.

General Motors has confirmed that it is working on a new electric model for the Chevy brand that will be sold alongside the Volt and Spark electric models. Last week, Mark Reuss , GM’s global product chief confirmed the plans to a group of investors.
Reuss did not disclose any other details about the new EV, but according to sources, GM is working on an electric car that will be based on the current generation Sonic subcompact. It will also reportedly have a range around 200 miles when it arrives sometime in 2017.

It’s not known if the new electric vehicle will be limited to California and Oregon like the Spark EV or if GM will make it available across the country.

The next-generation 2016 Chevy Volt is going to debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show.
