2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid gets up to 34 mpg and starts at $29,270

Toyota has revealed the specs and pricing for the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid, which is the first ever hybrid version of the compact crossover and the eighth hybrid in Toyota’s lineup.

The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5L Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and a small electric motor that generate a combined 194 horsepower and 206 lb-ft. of torque. The power is routed to ground via a CVT transmission and standard all-wheel drive system. The RAV4 Hybrid reaches 60 mph in 8.1 seconds, which is almost a second quicker than the standard RAV4. The EPA estimates are 34 mpg city / 31 mpg highway / 33 mpg combined. To compare, the standard RAV4 with AWD is rated at 22 mpg city/ 29 mpg highway / 25 mpg combined.

The RAV4 Hybrid comes in two premium grades: XLE and Limited. The XLE starts at $29,200, which is only $700 more than the standard RAV4 XLE with AWD. The top-spec Limited version starts at $35,410.
