Subaru hasn’t revealed any juicy details about the next-generation Subaru WRX STI, but according to sources, it will be powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine with 400 horsepower and 361 lb-ft. of torque.

Subaru Viziv Performance Concept

“Sources close to the Japanese automaker” have revealed the details to Forbes, which claim that the new WRX STI will get a more high performance version of the same turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that powers the Ascent, Legacy and Outback. In those models, the engine generates a modest 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. To give it the significant power boost, the sources claim that Subaru is going to give the engine upgrades, like revised valves, more boost and some other upgraded components.

It’s expected that the next-generation WRX STI will take some styling cues from the Viziv Performance concept that debuted back in 2017.

If the reports are accurate, the next-generation WRX will debut by the end of 2020 and the next WRX STI will arrive sometime in 2021.
