Porsche is in the final testing phase with the upcoming 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid, which is expected to use the same hybrid powertrain as the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. While Porsche has announced the specs for the Cayenne E-Hybrid, it’s expected to debut by the end of the year and now Porsche has released a few teasers.
Pre-production versions of the Cayenne E-Hybrid are currently being put to the test in South Africa. The prototypes are being driven through the traffic-packed city roads in and around Johannesburg and up rugged mountain passes almost 10,000 feet high.
“We are on the cusp of the market launch and are bringing the vehicles up to speed in terms of functionality. We are testing them here once again in a customer-focussed way”, says Oliver Laqua, Director Complete Vehicle Product Line SUV.
During the testing phase, the Cayenne E-Hybrid has to prove that it can withstand the most difficult conditions, across different continents – including temperatures of minus 40 degrees in northern Canada and plus 40 degrees in the deserts of Dubai. “Our goal is to deliver a vehicle to the customer that is 100 percent perfect”, says Peter Hass, Team Manager Quality Management and Testing.
The 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid will be powered by a 2.9L V6 engine and an electric motor that generate a total 462 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. If you want more power, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid will eventually be added with a 4.0L V8 and electric motor that generate an over the top 680 horsepower and 626 lb-ft.
