Nissan is getting ready to introduce its second electric vehicle, the Ariya crossover, but what does Nissan have planned for its first EV, the Leaf? A new report claims that the next-generation Leaf will be an electric crossover.

Autocar is reporting that the new Leaf crossover has been confirmed by Guillaume Cartier, Nissan’s chairperson of the AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania) region. The new Leaf will ditch its current hatchback body style and will be based on Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-EV platform. That’s the same platform that is used by the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.

It’s also being reported that the next Leaf will arrive in 2025.

We don’t know much else about the next-generation Leaf, but we’re not surprised to see it become a crossover, since most of the new EVs that have recently been introduced have also been crossovers. The teaser photo you see here was released a few months ago, but Nissan did not confirm if the crossover in this photo is the next Leaf.
