Despite the fact that Nissan killed the Nissan Juke crossover in the United States, the Juke still sells well in other markets, like Europe. Nissan recently confirmed that the second-generation Nissan Juke will arrive in 2019 and once again it will get a distinctive exterior.
Autocar recently spoke with Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s global design boss who revealed that the second-generation Juke “doesn’t look too much like the last one. It doesn’t look like IMx or new Leaf, either. It’s an urban meteor with a nasty attitude.”
It’s expected that the new Juke will be built on a stretched version of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s V-platform, which is used by the Renault Clio and Nissan Micra. Under the hood the new Juke will also likely only get turbocharged engines, like the 898cc three-cylinder and 1197cc four-cylinder engines that power the Micra and Qashqai. A diesel engine will also likely be offered.
“Our job was easier with the first one, because there was nothing else like it,” Albaisa stated. “And that car’s success was so huge even given how polarizing it looked. The second one couldn’t be derivative or evolutionary and still be a Juke. We’d almost have to change its name to ‘Nancy’, otherwise.”
Since Nissan recently introduced the more conservative Nissan Kicks in the US, it’s unlikely that we’ll get the next-generation Juke.
