To celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the GT-R, Nissan has teamed up with Italdesign to create the GT-R50 prototype. The Nissan GT-R50 is going to have its world debut this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Nissan has announced that it may even build a few of them.
If the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is well received this week at Goodwood and other its other appearances later this year, Nissan has announced that it will build it. No more than 50 units would be produced by Italdesign with a price estimated to start at about $1.06 million (€900,000).
“The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal setting to showcase the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign, which combines power and artistry to celebrate 50 years of inspiring the dreams of our customers,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president of global design. “Just like the prototype itself, Goodwood is a celebration of design, performance, a little indulgence and a lot of love of historic and future automotive creativity. It’s the perfect setting to showcase a unique vehicle that will stir the imagination of people to dream even bigger.”
The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the GT-R Nismo, but with a unique look and more power under the hood. On the outside some of the highlights include a new power bulge on the hood, stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline, and “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels. At the rear, the GT-R50 is finished off with a large, adjustable rear wing and the exterior is painted in a Liquid Kinetic Gray color with Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary accents.
Inside you’ll find two different carbon fiber finishes that have been applied to the center console, instrument panel and door linings. The seats are wrapped in black Alcantara and black Italian leather. The interior also gets the same gold accents as the exterior.
Under the hood, the GT-R50 is powered by the 3.8-liter V6 engine, but Nissan’s engineers were able to squeeze out a bit more power to give it 710 horsepower and 575 lb-ft. of torque. The GT-R50 also gets a revised Bilstein suspension damping system and upgraded Brembo braking system.
