There’s been lots of news over the past few days about what we can expect from Jeep over the next few years, following FCA’s investor conference on Friday. During the conference, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, Sergio Marchionne revealed lots of new details about Jeep’s future lineup, including what we can expect with the next Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Motor Authority was able to get a few more details from Marchionne at the conference where he revealed that the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will ditch its current Daimler-sourced platform for the more modern platform that’s used by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV and the Giulia sedan.
“It started originally off the Alfa architecture, which has now been modified and extended to reach both a two-row and a three-row Grand Cherokee,” Marchionne revealed.
Since work on the platform has already been completed, the next-generation Jepp Grand Cherokee could arrive in 2019 or 2020. When it does arrive the Grand Cherokee will get a three-row version for the first time ever and a plug-in hybrid option.
While the next-generation Grand Cherokee is ready to ditch the current Mercedes-sourced platform, the next Dodge Charger and Challenger will continue to stick with an old German platform.
