Late last year VW unveiled the Cross Coupé concept at the Tokyo Motor Show that was powered by a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid system. Now VW is bringing the same concept to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show this week, but with an even more efficient plug-in hybrid system.

The Cross Coupé concept is now powered by a turbodiesel direct injection engine (TDI) and two electric motors. Its combined fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle is a low 1.8 litres per 100 km (around 157 mpg) with CO2 emissions of just 46 g/km. The concept also packs a total 302 horsepower and has a top speed of 137 mph.
