VW Brings the Alltrack Concept to New York to See if U.S. Buyers Want a Wagon

VW is bringing the Alltrack concept to the New York Auto Show to gauge the market reaction to a potential new wagon in VW’s U.S. lineup. Seen as an alternative to a large SUV, the Alltrack concept closes the gap between a passenger car and SUV with its chunky bumpers, flared side skirts and raised ride height.

This isn’t the first time that we are seeing the Alltrack concept. Last November VW unveiled the Passat Alltrack at the Tokyo Auto Show. At the time VW stated there were no plans to bring the Alltrack to the U.S., but it looks like VW may be open to the idea if the public wants it. Currently the VW Passat wagon is not sold in the U.S., so this could be your chance to get your hands on a Passat wagon, with a little more offroad capability.

The Alltrack concept features VW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI diesel engine that makes 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive. It’s ground clearance has been raised 1.2 inches.
