Volkswagen has announced that it’s going to move away from the current media device interface (MDI) in its vehicles and instead will install USB ports. The current MDI system gives Apple iPhone users the ability to quickly connect their devices to the infotainment system in their VW, but Android users have had to go out an purchase an accessory adapter cable.
“We are moving to USB in place of the MDI system because that’s what our customers in the U.S. have been asking us for,” VW technology manager Mark Gillies told Popular Mechanics.
