At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota showed off a range of future and current models in sportier clothes and with performance enhancements as well. These cars wore a G’s logo with the words “Toyota G Sports” written underneath. The most notable car at the show was the FT-86 G Sports Concept.
The G’s division is a new division for Toyota that is similar pother OEM tuner divisions like Mercedes’ AMG and BMW’s M. The new division will start showing up in mid-2010 and will consist of complete conversions of Toyota’s existing products. The main difference that Toyota’s division will have compared to AMG and BMW’s M is that customers will have more freedom to choose the level of tweaks to their vehicles.
VW also announced plans this week to create a new sport division, dubbed R GmbH.
