Truck sales are down across the industry, but Toyota announced today that the automaker is going to increase Tacoma production at its Tijuana, Baja California plant.
The plant produced 32,249 in 2007 and this year the plant is expected to produce 50,000 Tacomas. Last month Tacoma sales are down 25.9 percent to 11,354 units and in the first six months of this year sales are down 9.1 percent from 92,462 to 84,068.
The Tacoma is also built at Toyota’s New United Motor Manufacturing plant in Fremont, California. The Corolla is also built at this same plant. It isn’t known if Toyota is planning on reducing production of the Tacoma in favor of the Corolla in Fremont…although it would make sense.
