Sales of Diesel Cars will Outsell Hybrids in the US by 2012?

According to a new report by Ricardo and UBS, diesel powered cars will outsell hybrids by 2012. Right now diesel cars barely register on the radar in the US, but in the next few years many automakers will offer diesel versions of their popular vehicles.

The report predicts that hybrids will not be able to compete with diesels, due to the fact that hybrids are more complex. The many components of hybrids make them more costly than diesels, even with the added emissions systems on diesels.

This contradicts Toyota’s prediction that by the end of the decade hybrids will cost about the same to produce as regular gas powered cars.

Lets hope that eventually there will be diesel hybrids!
