Nissan plans to increase the warranty on the electric Nissan Leaf’s battery in response to owners’ concerns about its durability. Nissan will repair or replace the Leaf’s lithium-ion battery if it loses more than 30 percent of its ability to hold a charge after five years or 60,000 miles. The good part is that Nissan will make the warranty apply to new and current owners.
Nissan decided to increase the warranty in response to current owners complaints that the lithium-ion battery’s ability to hold a charge is deteriorating much faster than predicted. When Nissan launched the Leaf in 2010, it stated that the Leaf’s battery would act just like the battery in a cell phone. Meaning that after continued use it’s ability to hold a full charge would decline.
