The arrival of the next-generation 2016 Toyota Prius is being delayed until December 2015, which is six months later than originally planned. According to one source, the delay is because engineers need extra time to maximize the Prius’s fuel economy.
The next-generation Prius, code-named 690A will use Toyota’s new modularized vehicle architecture (Toyota New Global Architecture) and will be powered by a next-generation hybrid system. The new hybrid system is expected to be smaller, lighter and more efficient as Toyota targets at least a 10 percent fuel economy improvement over the current Prius.
