Yesterday Mazda officially took the wraps off the all-new 2014 Mazda6 midsize sedan in Moscow. Reports are starting to come in about the new Mazda2 subcompact and the Mazda3, which are both going to be redesigned for the 2014 model year.

According to a source that spoke with Automotive News, Mazda may not bring the next-generation Mazda2 to the U.S. After being on sale here for two years, the Mazda2’s sales have failed to meet expectations. The Mazda2’s price point that is very close to the larger Mazda3 is one of the reasons why it’s sales have been slow in the U.S. The growth of the subcompact segment as a whole has also been quite slow. If the next Mazda2 does get the green light for the U.S., expect it to come here for the 2015 model year.

Mazda is also preparing a new Mazda3 that will arrive by the end of 2013 as a 2014 model. The next Mazda3 will move to a new lighter platform and will be powered by Mazda’s new 2.0L and 2.5L Skyactiv engines. The new Mazda3 will adopt Mazda’s latest kodo design language and a diesel engine is a possibility.
