Details are slowly coming out about what we can expect from the next-generation Chevy Impala. GM recently announced that the next Impala will be built at GM’s plant in Detroit-Hamtramck, Michigan, alongside the 2013 Malibu and Chevy Volt.

GM didn’t release a timeframe of when we can expect the next Impala, but according to sources the 2014 Impala will debut at the end of 2012, with sales starting in early 2013. The 2014 Impala will also move upmarket as it will share its platform with the upcoming 2013 Cadillac XTS sedan. Both sedans will be built on an extended version of GM’s re-engineered Epsilon platform.

Building the next Impala on the same platform as the Cadillac XTS will create more room between the Impala and the new Malibu, since currently the two sedans overlap too much in the Chevy lineup.
