Next-Gen 2012 BMW M5 to be Automatic Only

We’ve been seeing spy shots of the next-generation BMW M5 for a while now. What we are learning now is that the M5 will be the first M5 that will only be available with an automatic transmission. This means no manual or twin-clutch option will be available.

The next M5 is going to be powered by a turbocharged 4.4L V8 that will be mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic with a manumatic option. Apparently the torque rating of the 4.4L V8 was too high for BMW to use the Getrag M Dual Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in the new M5. BMW
