According to recent reports, Chevrolet is working on a new compact seven-seater crossover.

The new crossover is going to be built at GM’s Hamtramck, Michigan plant. The new people mover code named MPV-7 will be based on the next-generation Opel Zafira when it is released as a 2009 model. The US model will get more “manly” styling and a unique interior compared to the Opel. Saturn may also get a version of the car.

Pricing is expected to be in the high $20,000 to low $30,000 range. GM hopes to fill the gap left open by the now departed Chevrolet Venture minivan. The automaker hopes to sell 100,000 units of the car per year (Europe and US).
