Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest concept, the Vision Tokyo at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept looks similar to the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept that debuted earlier this year, but its van-like styling and lounge interior are designed to appeal to a younger generation.

Mercedes-Benz designed the Vision Tokyo to appeal to individuals that belong to Generation Z (people born after 1995) who have grown up with the new media. The role of the vehicle has changed for this global generation: it is no longer simply a means of getting around, but a digital, automobile companion. Since the Vision Tokyo concept is also capable of driving itself on its own, the interior doesn’t have a traditional layout, like today’s cars.

Instead passengers enter the Vision Tokyo concept via an upward-swinging door on the left-hand side and then they take their seat on a large, oval-shaped couch. The lounge-style set up allows for more face-to-face communication, but if someone does decide to take over the driving duties, a driver’s seat can be released from the center of the couch.

The Vision Tokyo concept is not only powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system, but also a plug-hybrid system. Both systems combined give the concept a 609 mile driving range.
