Mercedes-Benz has decided to discontinue the twelve-cylinder versions of the SL roadster, the SL600 and SL65 AMG without an official announcement. The move is reportedly in anticipation of the upcoming all-new 2013 SL-Class that is expected to debut sometime next year.

The SL600 was the first model to disappear and was powered by a 5.5L V12 that put out 510 horsepower and 610 lb-ft. of torque. The SL65 AMG, which is powered by a 604 horsepower 6.0L V12 has been dropped from the 2012 lineup.

It’s not known if Mercedes-Benz will be phasing out its V12 engines completely and replacing them with V8s.
