McLaren has just unveiled the convertible version of the new 650S, the 650S Spider. Just like the 650S Coupe, the 650S Spider is powered by a 641-hp twin-turbocharged 3.8L V8 with 500 lb-ft. of torque.
McLaren has just unveiled the convertible version of the new 650S, the 650S Spider. Just like the 650S Coupe, the 650S Spider is powered by a 641-hp twin-turbocharged 3.8L V8 with 500 lb-ft. of torque. McLaren also says that the 650S Spider will offer nearly identical performance to the coupe, with the addition of a two-piece retractable hard top.
Since the 650S Coupe’s carbon fiber MonoCell chassis did not require any additional reinforcing to turn it into the convertible, the 650S Spider only weighs 88 pounds more. The extra weight is from the retractable hardtop and roof mechanism, which can be lowered in under 17 seconds.
The 650S Spider reached 0-62 mph in the same 3.0 seconds as the coupe, but is 0.2 seconds slower to 124 mph at 8.6 seconds. It’s top speed is set at 204 mph.
