Infiniti is going to give the world a preview of the next-generation QX50 crossover, with the debut of the QX50 concept new month at the Detroit Auto Show. It’s expected that the design of the concept is pretty close to the production version, which Infiniti says is “an evolution of the QX Sport Inspiration” concept.

While the exterior may not be anything too exciting to look at, what’s under the hood definitely is. The concept is powered by Infiniti’s new variable compression 2.0L four-cylinder that can alter its compression ratio to anywhere between 8:1 and 14:1. The 2.0L generates 268 horsepower and 288 lb-ft. of torque, which is a significant jump from Infiniti’s current 2.0L that only generates 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft.

The QX50 concept also debuts Infiniti’s new ProPilot semi-autonomous technology. The self-driving technology can’t completely drive the QX50 concept on its own, but it does give the crossover the ability to handle stop-and-go traffic.

Infiniti hasn’t announced when the production version will debut, but it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2017 as a 2018 model.

The Infiniti QX50 concept will debut on January 9.
