According to Ulrich Hackenberg, head of product development at Volkswagen all future VW models are going to have either a mild or full hybrid option.

Hackenberg also discussed the future of diesels in the VW lineup in a recent interview with Automobilewoche. In addition to the VW models that have already been revealed with diesel powertrains, the next models to receive a diesel option are the Tiguan SUV and possibly the EOS convertible.

He also discussed the future of the rear-engined VW up! that is set to be released for the 2011 model year. The small up! could serve as the basis for an all electric vehicle in the future.
