GM officially unveiled the GMC Granite concept at the Detroit Auto Show last year and by the summer there were reports that the Granite had been approved for production. Of course GM’s PR team officially killed those rumors, but now there are reports that the concept has been given the green light.

The latest sources claim that the GMC Granite has been green-lighted and that it will go into production with the suicide doors featured on the concept. Don’t expect to see it in dealerships anytime soon, since it’s not expected until the 2013 or 2014 model year. The Granite will be based on the same platform as the Chevy Orlando, Volt and Cruze. It’s most closely related to the Orlando, which is not coming to the US.
