General Motors is going to reportedly pause production of the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks starting next month.
General Motors is going to reportedly pause production of the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks starting next month. According to the latest report, GM will close its Detroit-Hamtramck plant from Sept. 17 until Oct. 15. The plant currently employs around 1,500 workers and assembles the Chevy Volt and recently started producing a limited number of 2013 Chevy Malibus.
The idling of the plant next month marks the second time that production of the Chevy Volt has been idled this year, due to rising inventory levels. On a more positive note, GM sold almost 11,000 Volts through July of this year, which is a lot more than the less than 3,000 units GM sold in the same period last year.
GM states that the rising sales are due to strong demand for the new low-emissions version of the Chevy Volt that gives drivers access to California’s carpool lanes.
