Just a few months after Ford added production of the Ford Fusion at its Flat Rock, MI plant, Ford is halting production. Fusion inventory numbers have been increasing, so Ford is going to shut down production of the Fusion for one extra week in December. What is causing the increased Fusion inventory? Ford execs are attributing the growing inventory to increased competition from the Toyota Camry.
Ford’s Fusion inventory has increased to an 88 day supply, which is significantly higher than the 48 day supply that Ford had a year ago. A 65 day supply is considered normal in the industry. Fusion sales have increased 20 percent this year, but Toyota is tacking on extra incentives to keep the Camry ahead of competitors like the Fusion and Honda Accord.
Toyota is intent on keeping the Camry’s “best-selling car” title, so the automaker is willing to pull out all the stops to keep the Camry on top.
