Why the name change? Cadillac’s new naming strategy means that all sedans and coupes will use a “CT” and a number, like the upcoming CT6. All future crossovers will use an “XT” followed by a number that designates each models positioning in the lineup. Only one model will keep its name, the Escalade.

The XT5 will borrow many of the same design cues from the upcoming CT6 sedan. We don’t have that much other information, but the XT5 will be a five seater crossover and it may ride on an updated version of GM’s Theta platform. The XT5 is expected to go on sale in early 2016.
