The creatively named concept is a preview of BMW’s upcoming 1-Series sedan that will go head to head with the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Now that the LA Auto Show debuts are done, BMW has moved onto the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, where the automaker has unveiled its new Compact Sedan concept. The creatively named concept is a preview of BMW’s upcoming 1-Series sedan that will go head to head with the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Compared to the coupe-like shape of the CLA, the Compact Sedan concept is a true sedan with its three-box design. It borrows many styling cues from other new BMW models, like the flagship 7-Series and even the 2-Series Active Tourer that unfortunately we are getting in the U.S.

Inside the Compact Sedan concept’s interior isn’t a big departure from the current BMW lineup. The dashboard has a familiar shape with its elongated horizontal lines that are supposed to give you a create a feeling of space in the small sedan. A panoramic sunroof brings extra light into the interior and two individual rear seats will add a “sporty” touch.
BMW hasn’t announced when the 1-Series sedan will officially debut, but we do know that it will be based on the UKL platform with a range of three- and four-cylinder engines. This also means that it will be front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will be optional.
