Mazda has released a new teaser of the Mazda CX-8 three-row SUV that is going to go on sale in Japan by the end of the year. In the U.S. we have the CX-9 SUV, but it’s slightly too big for Japan, so Mazda is introducing the slightly smaller CX-8.

The 2018 CX-8 will be almost seven inches shorter than the CX-9, but both SUVs have the same wheelbase. A side by side comparison of the two shows that most people probably wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Under the hood the CX-8 will be powered by a 2.2L diesel engine.

As of right now Mazda has only announced that the CX-8 will be offered in Japan. The chances of its coming to the United States are very unlikely, since it would easily cannibalize sales of the CX-9.
