It’s too bad that U.S. buyers still hate wagons, since Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and BMW all have new wagons. Since buyers here don’t love wagons, Volvo’s new V90 can only be specially ordered and BMW doesn’t even have plans to bring the new 5 Series Touring to the U.S. Either way, buyers in other markets will surely love the new 5 Series Touring that is going to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Based on the new 5 Series sedan, the 5 Series Touring is slightly larger than the outgoing model, which provides noticeably more space for passengers and luggage. With the rear seats up the 5 Series Touring has 20 cubic feet of cargo space and with the seats folded the cargo capacity expands to 60 cubic feet. Even though its a bit larger, the new 5 Series Touring is around 220 pounds lighter, which helps improve its fuel economy by about 11 percent.

When the new 5 Series Touring goes on sale later this year, it will launch with a choice of four engines, both diesel and gasoline versions. Two versions will also feature all-wheel drive. The most powerful version will be the 540i xDrive Touring which is powered by a turbocharged 340-hp 3.0-liter six-cylinder.
