Land Rover has taken the wraps off the all-new 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV, which is the replacement for the LR2/ Freelander.
Land Rover has taken the wraps off the all-new 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV, which is the replacement for the LR2/ Freelander. The Discovery Sport is the first model from the new Discovery family that was previewed by the Discovery Vision concept earlier this year.
Compared to the outgoing LR2/ Freelander, the Discovery Sport looks closer to other models in the lineup, like the Range Rover Evoque. While its exterior remains compact, the Discovery Sport will offer the option for a third row seat, giving it the ability to hold up to seven passengers. The Discovery Sport measures 180.7-inches with a 107.9-inch wheelbase.

“Our challenge has been to combine premium design with exceptional versatility; the two attributes must work in harmony,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer. “I’m proud to say we’ve achieved that; Discovery Sport’s dynamic design will resonate on an emotional level with consumers, and this vehicle is more versatile than any other premium compact SUV on the market.”
Inside the 2015 Discovery Sport features an eight-inch touchscreen that provides access to the infotainment system and a five-inch TFT display that’s located in between the gauges.
When the Discovery Sport arrives early next year, it will be offered with a choice of a 2.0L gas engine or a 2.2L turbodiesel, later in 2015 a new ED4 turbodiesel will be offered. The U.S. will just have to make due with the 240-hp 2.0L engine, which is borrowed from the Evoque. The 2.0L engine is mated to a standard nine-speed automatic transmission and accelerates the SUV from 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds.
Pricing will start at $38,920 and buyers can choose an optional Black Pack trim package that adds a gloss black grille, front fender vents, mirrors, badges and black wheels. The Discovery Sport will be offered in three trim levels: SE, HSE and HSE Luxury.
