Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the refreshed 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which gets a completely new face, which is more drastic than the normal midlife changes we expect. The squared off face with its four individual headlights is gone and is now replaced one-piece headlights, while flowing light elements within the headlights help to retain the “four-eyed” appearance that is such a distinctive E-Class signature. Low beam and daytime running lights both come with partial LED as standard, while full-LED headlamps are available as an option for the first time in this class. The hood and front bumper have also been completely redesigned, which effectively does away with the squared off look.

The rear end of the 2014 E-Class features less significant changes, with only slight modifications to the lights and the bumper. The new LED tail lamps have a horizontal design that emphasizes the width of the vehicle, while the two-tone look comes with a distinctive nighttime signature. Sport models feature exposed dual exhaust pipes.

Mercedes-Benz has also added eleven new or optimized safety systems from the future S-Class. The systems include technologies that can help prevent accidents with pedestrians or vehicles crossing in front, Active Lane Keeping Assist for avoiding collisions with oncoming traffic and anti-glare continuous high-beam headlamps.

Under the hood buyers can choose between V6 in the E350 and V8 units in the E550 and E63 AMG, a 190-hp four-cylinder diesel in the E250 BlueTEC and a hybrid powertrain in the E400 Hybrid that gets 24/30 mpg.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 and E550 models go on sale in the spring, while the E63 AMG and E250 models go on sale in the fall.
