Jeep already ended production of the current Jeep Liberty, but we won’t have to wait too long to see its replacement. Jeep’s boss Mike Manley has confirmed that the Liberty’s successor is going to be unveiled next month at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Although the new Liberty is going to be unveiled in just over a month, it still hasn’t been confirmed if it will be called the Liberty, Cherokee or something entirely new.

Whatever the replacement is called, it will become more carlike than before thanks to a platform borrowed from Alfa Romeo, while still maintaining its off-road capability. Spy shots have revealed that it will get a new independent rear suspension. According to sources it could be powered either by a 3.2L or 3.6L V6 mated to a nine-speed transmission.
