Honda has dropped all the specs for the all-new 2013 Honda Accord sedan and coupe. The all-new ninth-generation Accord is smaller on the outside, but bigger on the inside than the outgoing model. It is powered by either a four-cylinder or V6 engine and for the first time ever, Honda is adding a CVT and plug-in hybrid into the mix.
The four-cylinder Accord is powered by a new 2.4L four-cylinder engine that packs 185 horsepower and that can be mated to either a six-speed manual or new CVT transmission. The four-cylinder mated to the new CVT is rated at 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, with a combined rating of 30 mpg. The new Accord Sport gets an extra 4 horsepower for a total 189 horsepower.
For buyers that want more power, Honda will continue to offer a V6 in the Accord. The 3.5L V6 generates 278 horsepower and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It’s rated at 21 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway and has a 25 mpg combined rating.
In early 2013, the 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid will debut Honda’s new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder two-motor plug-in hybrid system. Available in the Sedan only, this system operates continuously through three modes – all-electric, gasoline-electric and direct-drive. It packs a total 196 horsepower and will be able to travel between 10-15 miles in full electric mode. The Accord plug-in hybrid will also take less than an hour to fully recharge using a 240-volt outlet.
