BMW may have recently decided to kill the hybrid version of the X6, but BMW is still committed to growing its hybrid line. Its latest hybrid the ActiveHybrid 5, which is based on the 535i sedan, has been officially unveiled.

The 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 mates BMW’s TwinPower turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with an electric drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The system has a total output of 335 horsepower. The ActiveHybrid 5 can drive up to 37 mph on electric power alone and reaches 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. It can also drive in all-electric mode for 2.5 miles at an average of 22 mph. BMW hasn’t released the official fuel economy specs.

The ActiveHybrid 5 will reach U.S. showrooms in March 2012.
