2012 BMW 1 Series Hatchback Official Photos

Yesterday the first photos of the all-new 2012 BMW 1 Series Hatchback leaked onto the internet ahead of its official debut in Frankfurt this fall.

The 2012 1 Series Hatchback is now larger with its length now at 166.7 inches, width at 69.5 inches and height at 55.9 inches. It’s now 3.3 inches longer than the first generation and 0.7 inches wider. The wheelbase has been increased by 1.2 inches, bringing it to 105.9 inches long.

European buyers will be able to choose from a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder gasoline engine, which puts out 136 hp in the 116i and 170 hp in the 118i. Buyers can also choose a 2.0L four-cylinder diesel engine, which puts out 116 hp in the 116d, 143 hp in the 118d and 184 hp in the 120d. The 120d model is the fastest 1 Series with a 0-62 mph time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 142 mph. Eventually BMW will release 128i and 135i gasoline powered models.

A three-door hatchback is also expected and the coupe and convertible versions are expected to be unveiled in about a year.
