The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has just given the 2008 Mustang Convertible five stars, its highest safety rating. This is the first convertible in history to receive such a rating.
The NHTSA, tests the cars ability to withstand front-end collisions, side-impact collisions and rollovers. The Mustang received a five-star rating for front crash safety for both the driver and passenger as well as five stars for side impact for both front and back passengers. It also received a perfect score in the rollover tests. The Mustang’s extensive list of standard features helped it achieve the rating.
For 2008 Ford added standard seat-mounted thorax side airbags. The Mustang also has Ford’s trademarked Personal Safety System.
