Mitsubishi is working hard to revamp its image and improve its sales, which is why it’s decided to fully focus on building more popular crossovers. The Eclipse name was recently brought back to life for the new Eclipse Cross crossover and a new report claims that another Mitsubishi car is about to be applied to a new crossover.

2018 Mitsubishi Mirage

While the thought of the Evo or even the 3000GT names being used for a crossover sounds awful, the idea of the Mirage becoming a crossover instead of a small hatchback doesn’t sound too bad. Japan’s Response is reporting that Mitsubishi is working on a new smaller crossover that will share its platform with the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. The new small crossover will use the Mirage name and if the report is true, it will hopefully be more appealing than the current bargain basement hatchback and sedan.

It’s not known if the Mirage name will be used as is or if the new crossover could be called the Mirage Cross, like the Eclipse Cross. The report claims that the new crossover will debut in 2019 as a 2020 model. The new crossover is also reportedly going to be powered by a three-cylinder engine, but lets hope it packs more power than the current 78 horsepower 1.2L engine that powers the Mirage.

A few months ago another report surfaced that reported that the Lancer name would also be used for a new compact crossover, so we’ll have to wait and see if both reports are accurate.
