Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the fourth-generation 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class at an event in Amsterdam. The 2019 A-Class is now more grown up with an extra dose of style, a slightly larger footprint and a range of new engines.
Starting with the exterior the wheelbase has grown 1.2-inches, while its track is now half an inch wider. The overall styling is now more angular with some of the same lines as the new 2019 CLS, especially at the front. The hood now slopes down more than before, while larger wheel arches give it a sportier look.
Under the hood there are a range of engine options. There are two new four-cylinder gas engines, 161 horsepower 1.4L and a 221-hp 2.0L. The 1.4L can be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the 2.0L only gets the latter. A 1.5L four-cylinder turbodiesel is also an option with 114 hp and 192 lb-ft. of torque. More engines will eventually be added and the 4Matic all-wheel drive system is optional.
Inside there’s a bit more room thanks to the larger exterior, but what’s more interesting is the new MBUX infotainment system. The system is available in three versions: two 7-inch displays, a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch display, or two 10.25-inch displays. The 2019 A-Class will also be available with the latest driving assistance systems, which give it the ability to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations.
The 2019 A-Class will arrive as a hatchback in Europe later this year, but in North America it will be offered as a sedan.
