It’s been almost four years since Hyundai revealed the Santa Cruz pickup truck concept and although we’ve heard reports about a production version, we’re still waiting to hear when it will arrive. Autocar recently spoke to Luc Donckerwolke, the Chief Design Officer at the Hyundai Motor Group who reconfirmed it’s coming.

Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept

“You’ve seen the [Santa Cruz] pick-up from the 2015 Detroit show, that car is under development at Hyundai.” When Autocar asked about the timing for the new Hyundai pickup truck, Donckerwolke stated, “as soon as possible. From my side [design] it is finished, the process to put it into production is now under way.”

The new Hyundai pickup truck could arrive by 2020 and although the Santa Cruz concept was a compact pickup, it’s not known if Hyundai is going to target the compact segment, like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma or the full size segment, which is dominated by the F-150. A Kia version of the pickup truck is also in the works, but it will arrive after the Hyundai.
