Hyundai has decided to shift its focus to electric cars, just like almost every other automaker is doing now. We’ve already heard reports about a fully-electric Kona SUV, but now Hyundai has confirmed the small EV SUV and a future electric Genesis sedan.
Hyundai originally focused its attention on fuel cell vehicles, like Toyota, but with the growing popularity of EVs and the Chinese government’s focus on electric cars, Hyundai has changed its plans. Hyundai already offers the electric Ioniq, but it’s range is no where near as far as a Bolt or Model 3 can drive. That will change next year when the electric Kona is released with a driving range around 242 miles.
Fast forward to 2021 and Hyundai is going to released a fully-electric Genesis sedan with a driving range around 310 miles.
“We’re strengthening our eco-friendly car strategy, centering on electric vehicles,” stated Executive Vice President Lee Kwang-guk.
Hyundai is also planning to add more plug-in hybrid models to both the Hyundai and Kia lineups.
