GM may be working on a new all-wheel drive system, since a days ago it trademarked the “Sport Control AWD” name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

2018 Chevy Traverse

It’s not known what the “Sport Control AWD” name will be used for or if it will even be used at all. According to the trademark it could be used for all-wheel drive systems and electronic stability control systems for vehicles; steering systems for vehicles; traction control systems for vehicles; suspension systems for vehicles; braking systems for vehicles; vehicles; or an apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water; parts, fittings and components thereof.

That all seems pretty broad, but it will likely be used for a new all-wheel drive system, which might be used for GM’s sportier models. The name actually sounds pretty similar to Acura’s Super-Handling AWD system. We’ll have to see if the name will simply be used for GM’s existing all-wheel drive systems or something completely new.
