EV buyers are eager to get their hands on the Ford F-150 Lighting electric pickup truck. In October it was revealed that Ford had already received over 150,000 reservations and it looks like Ford is going to have a hard time keeping up with demand. Now Ford has announced that it is ramping up its efforts so that it can build 600,000 EVs a year by 2023.
In an interview with Automotive News, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed that Ford is also working on a new full-size EV truck platform. “We’ve announced this new plant; it’s going to be a huge site, and it’s going to build a vehicle we do not have today off a brand-new platform – a full-size pickup platform,” Farley stated. “We think it’s going to be incredibly high volume. What I know for sure that we have to build more of? Battery plants.”
The new platform will be different than the F-150 Lightning, since that EV still shares its platform with the standard F-150. We don’t have any other details about the new platform, but it’s rumored that it will arrive around 2025.
