Some Ferrari fans probably never thought the brand would build a high-riding model to tap into the SUV craze, but it’s now officially happening. CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that Ferrari will release an SUV, but it will take about 30 months to decide on production.

While Ferrari hasn’t confirmed when the new SUV will arrive, Ferrari is beyond the consideration phase. “We’re dead serious about this,” Marchionne stated about what he calls the “FUV” model. “We need to learn how to master this whole new relationship between exclusivity and scarcity of product, then we’re going to balance this desire to grow with a widening of the product portfolio.”

Marchionne’s latest comments about the Ferrari SUV are a step further than what he stated in August when asked about it, where he simply stated that the SUV would “probably happen.”
