Chevy has announced that the 2018 Chevy Equinox Diesel has an EPA rating of 39 mpg on the highway. That means that the Equinox Diesel has a higher highway MPG rating than the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue hybrids.

The new 1.6L turbo-diesel engine generates 137 horsepower and at 240 lb-ft of torque. Chevy hasn’t announced the other MPG specs for the diesel engine, but a slide from a recent presentation for the Equinox Diesel alludes to a combined 32 mpg rating. The engine also features stop/start technology is compatible with B20 bio-diesel fuel.

“It is very fun to drive, with torque on demand at all speeds,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president of Global Propulsion Systems. “In fact, the engine delivers 90 percent of peak torque between 1,500 and 3,250 rpm. The strong torque provides the feeling of a larger engine, with exceptional smoothness and quietness.”

Pricing for the 2018 Equinox starts at $24,475, while the Equinox Diesel starts at $31,435. The 2018 Equinox Diesel will arrive this fall.
