While it wasn’t loved by all, the BMW 3 Series GT did manage to find some buyers that wanted a more versatile version of the 3 Series, but that also didn’t want a wagon. Well it looks like the 3 Series GT is going bye bye either way, since a new report claims that it will be discontinued when the next-generation 3 Series arrives.

2017 BMW 3 Series GT

According to BMW Blog, the BMW 3 Series GT is slated to go out of production in July 2020. The controversial 3 Series GT may be going away, but that doesn’t mean that the 4 Series Gran Coupe is going anywhere. Production of the current 4 Series Gran Turismo is also expected to end in 2020, but it will return about a year later in all new duds.

The latest report that the 3 Series GT is being discontinued follows a report last year that stated that the 3 Series GT would be 4 Series Gran Coupe would actually be merged. It’s not surprising that the 4 Series Gran Coupe is going to live on, since it’s the best selling model in the 4 Series lineup and it’s also expected to be the basis for BMW’s new i4 electric car.

Speaking of the i4, BMW confirmed earlier this year that the i Vision Dynamics concept is a preview of the new i4. The BMW i4 will arrive by 2022.
